Today's Baltimoreans may know Oasis Night Club as a strip joint. But back in the glory days of "The Block" district, the Oasis was a nationally renowned upscale cabaret that showcased the finest talent in the land. According to our consignor, there was a popular Oasis singer in the late-1940 and early-1950s named Annette who would obtain notable autographs for her niece Carol Taylor. Hence, this offering of six signatures on four items. Jack Dempsey: 1-1/2” x 6” card-stock cut (VG, two fold lines) with printed “Name…No. of Persons…” and Dempsey’s fountain-pen “7-8” signature. Woody Herman: 3-3/8” x 6” cut page (VG/EX, fold line) with pencil “9-10” personalized signature. Red Buttons: 4” x 4” Oasis parking card (EX, minor corner creasing) with pencil “9-10” inscription, “For Carol Ann / Ho-Ho-Hee-Hee! / Red Buttons.” Mills Brothers: 8” x 10” Dot Records promo photo (VG/EX) with darkly scripted, lightly smudged "7-8" signatures of Herb, Harry and Donald.
The Dempsey signature comes with an Auction LOA from JSA. The remaining signatures have no authentication due to lack of exemplars.
