An American fighter ace with 26 World War I aerial triumphs, Eddie Rickenbacker was successful in his every endeavor, including race car driving and automotive design. This typewritten correspondence was composed and signed by the iconic pioneer. Dated “May 26, 1947” on a crisp 7-1/4 x 10-1/2” sheet of Rickenbacker’s personal stationery, the letter conveys gratitude for a donation to a foundation championed by Rickenbacker. At the conclusion, Rickenbacker has signed in blue-ink fountain pen (“9-10” strength). Full photo LOA from JSA.
The letter reads (in full):
”Just a word to say how much I appreciate your helpful response to my appeal on behalf of the World’s Sunday School Association
I am glad you concur with me that the answer to world chaos is more and better Christian education. Your gift of $5.00 will aid in providing it for the boys and girls of fifty-two countries.
For them as well as for ourselves, I say a most hearty thank you.
(signed) Eddie Rickenbacker”
